Islamabad: The federal government has announced a new initiative to introduce school children to the wonders of astronomy through the integration of space technology.
According to sources, the Ministry of Education has commenced efforts to promote astronomy in public schools across Islamabad. The Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mohiuddin Wani has issued directives to the relevant departments outlining plans to install large telescopes in these schools.
In the first phase of this project, a large telescope will be installed in one pilot school. On May 27, students from various public schools will have the opportunity to observe the moon through this telescope. This telescope session will allow students to explore the mysteries of space and the planets.
Sources further reveal that in the initial phase, students from 10 to 12 schools will be given the chance to observe celestial objects using the large telescope. On the night of May 27 from 9:00 to 10:30 PM, students along with their teachers and parents will be able to observe the moon, stars and the night sky.
In addition to nighttime observations, students will also have the opportunity to observe the sun during the day using solar glasses. After the summer holidays, efforts will be made to provide each primary school with a large telescope.
Secretary Mohiuddin Wani emphasized the importance of acquainting children with the sciences of the universe stating that it is a crucial need of the times. This initiative aims to ignite curiosity and interest in space among young students fostering a generation that is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the cosmos.
This project signifies a significant step towards enhancing science education in Pakistan and it reflects the government’s commitment to providing students with practical and engaging learning experiences. By integrating space technology into the curriculum, the Ministry of Education hopes to inspire a new generation of astronomers and space enthusiasts.
