TRAVEL ADVISORY: Route 20 in Winfield to close June 4


WINFIELD, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — The New York State Department of Transportation has announced an imminent road closing in Herkimer County beginning in June.

US Route 20 in the town of Winfield will be closing beginning on Tuesday, June 4. According to the DOT, the closure is necessary to facilitate culvert work in the area. The closure affects Route 20 between State Route 51 and Stafford Road in the town.

According to the DOT, motorists are advised to follow a signed detour, which will utilize State Route 51, County Route 18 and State Route 28. Motorists should expect travel delays and build extra time into their schedules.

The road is expected to be closed for approximately four weeks.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of the offender’s driver’s license.
