UNDP and G7 Bring AI Innovation to Africa with African Union Partnership


The UK is stepping up its own efforts in the field of artificial intelligence safety, which it co-hosted with Seoul, South Korea this week. The UK-based AI Safety Institute, which was founded in November 2023 with the noble goal of assessing and addressing risks in AI systems, will launch its second facility in San Francisco.

The objective is to get closer to the epicenter of AI research and development. From the ground up, artificial intelligence is being developed by Bay Area companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Meta.

Despite having signed an MOU with the US to address AI safety risks, the UK has decided to create a presence in the US. This choice is curious.The closeness to the site facilitates understanding of the project and the promotion of the United Kingdom to the participating companies, which is one possible rationale. Continuing their collaboration to co-create an AI Hub for Sustainable Development with African leaders in 2024, the Italian G7 Presidency and UNDP will build on the successes of the ‘G7 Verona Process on Digital Development’. Participants in this effort will hail from the tech sector, academic institutions, and new businesses all with a shared dedication to achieving the SDGs.
