Walker County Commissioners approved the use of state funds to provide up to 10 hours of counseling to eligible jurors and County employees Monday. The services will come at no cost to the County or individual unless they miss a scheduled appointment.
The program recognizes that some of the situations and events witnessed by some jurors and County employees need to be processed.
Monday’s action is in the midst of National Mental Health Awareness month, which recognizes the need to destigmatize mental health treatment.
Commissioners approved the best and final offer of $14.32 a square yard to Vulcan Materials Asphalt and Construction for paving roads primarily in Precinct 1 and includes one road in Precinct 2. The work is expected to cost $878,689.62
Commissioners Court approved up to $343,644.72 to upgrade the Walker County phone systems. The money will come from project contingency funds.
The Court passed on agenda items dealing with the purchase of tires for Emergency Medical Services. It also passed on an item pertaining to the possibility of taking over the purchase of a 2024, 5500 4×4 Dodge chassis that is currently on order for ESD #2.
The Court passed on an item pertaining to the policies related to collecting fees from individuals requesting medical records. The issue is likely to be considered at a future meeting of the Commissioners Court.
The board approved various amendments to the Fiscal Year 2024 budget as presented.
It authorized an application be submitted for 2024 Unclaimed Property Capital Credits from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
A motion to replace the HVAC system at the Senior Center with facility project funds not to exceed $27,000 was approved.
Labor and parts warranties were included by Riley’s Air Conditioning.
Commissioners Court took no action on an item to add additional funding to Road & Bridge Departments #1, 2, 3 and 4 for storm damages.
It also passed on a discussion item pertaining to the proper channels to follow when requesting materials during a disaster or other times.
Precinct 3 Commissioner Bill Daugette suggested the County and city begin to discuss an Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction agreement between Walker County and the City of Huntsville. No action was taken on the item at Monday’s meeting.
The Court approved several Planning & Development agenda items.
The Court approved the consent agenda prior to adjourning the regular meeting.
