High School Musical: The Musical’s fourth season: The Series ended with a satisfying reunion of the original group, minus Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron, and Ashley Tisdale.
Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Kaycee Stroh, and Lucas Grabeel got together for the last time at their high school reunion, where they also talked about where the missing figures were.
Tim Federle, who ran the show, told People in 2022 that he had invited all of the original HSM stars to be in the final season, but that it all depended on when they were available.
“It’s a matter of juggling and holding my breath and praying and lighting candles and seeing who wants to come play with us,” he said at the time.
During the show, the missing iconic trio was mentioned a few times. Martha, played by Stroh, told Coach Bolton, played by Bart Johnson, “They have been silent in the group chat.”
In a later scene, Chad, played by Blue, gave a detailed update on each of their characters, saying that he was happily married to Taylor Coleman, that Martha had found her passion in choreography, and that Ryan had found love with Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying. Meanwhile, Gabriella, played by Hudgens, and Troy, played by Efron, were working out their problems in “couples therapy.”
Federle told the outlet that it was important for the characters to stay true to the original series and that he came to his decisions with the help of the actors who played them.
He said, “It really was about High School Musical was an extraordinary thing in all of their lives. [But] also, they’ve had these big lives outside and their own heartbreaks and successes and ups and downs.”
