Brevard County mother accused of leaving kids inside car while visiting friend at bar


WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. — A mother in Brevard County is accused of leaving her kids in a car while she went to a bar, according to police.

West Melbourne police said an officer spotted Jami Gunn’s car parked behind a bar on Menton Road on Sunday.

Officers said the car was unlocked, and running, and her 8-month-old and 2-year-old kids were inside.

According to a police report, Gunn was inside of the bar visiting a friend for at least 20 minutes.

Police said when Gunn returned to the car and was questioned by officers, she was more concerned with not going to jail than the wellbeing of her children.

Officers said the children were turned over to a family member and the Department of Children and Families was notified.

Gunn faces charges of child neglect.

Police said Gunn has a criminal history consisting of contempt of court, forgery, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while license suspended.
