JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) – A behavioral summit focusing on mental health, drug prevention, and trauma was held early Thursday morning in the city of Jackson.
The summit is to help create awareness about behavioral health like educating community partners, reducing stigma, and building support for individuals affected by the disorders of mental health and substance abuse.
The event covered a number of topics around substance use prevention, treatment and recovery, mental health and trauma-informed care.
So, there is a lot of stigma around substance abuse disorder,” said Rebecca Calkin with Drug Free Jackson. “It’s not someone that is under a bridge, dirty, somebody over there we know it’s part of our community. We know that someone, a neighbor, a friend, a family member, these are people we care about and we want to surround them with love and we want to get them into treatment and recovery.
