Police continue investigation in fatal bicycle-car crash


Mt. Pleasant police are continuing to investigate the accident Wednesday night that killed a bicyclist at West High and South Henry streets.

William Alexander, 67, of Mt. Pleasant died after the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car driven by a 57-year-old Mt. Pleasant woman whom police have not named.

Officers were called to the scene at 6:13 p.m. and found Alexander had died after being struck by the westbound vehicle.

Mt. Pleasant Police Public Information Officer David Coffman said toxicology reports are pending on both Alexander and the driver of the car, and that there is no reason to believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The investigation is open, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the anonymous tip line at 989-779-9111 or Isabella County Central Dispatch at 989-773-1000.

State police from the Mt. Pleasant post, Mobile Medical Response ambulance, Isabella County Central Dispatch, the Isabella County Sheriff’s Office, the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department and the Isabella County Medical Examiner’s Office assisted at the scene.
