Elevate Expo helps connect people with mental health resources

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Sometimes the toughest war many of us face is in our minds and in our homes.

The same is true for service members and their families.

Tyndall Air Force Base hosted the “Elevation Expo” Thursday to letting people know about the many organizations ready to help.

More than 40 different mental health support organizations from the surrounding Panama City area gathered.

That included the Life Management Center in Panama City.

Their Director of Marketing, Kristina Williams was one of the speakers.

She says it’s important that everyone gets educated about what to do when someone is in a mental health crisis.

“We’re all going to come in contact with it, whether it be a family member, a co-worker, someone in our church or our community, who’s going to have a mental health struggle in their lifetime and if we’re equipped to respond appropriately, we can make a difference, and the more people that are trained and understand how to respond, the better our community will be, ” Kristina said.

The Mental Health First Aid class is offered quarterly.

Another organization attending was NWF Health Network.

Community Relations Specialist, Maryann Roberts says they offer a simple way to find assistance.

“Resources change, so it can be difficult to know even what’s available in our community, so we have something called NWF Connects,” Roberts said. “People can actually type in the resource they’re looking for so if that’s mental health, they type that in. If it’s substance abuse, they can type that in. If that’s food banks, if they need food, they can type that in, and their zip code and they can pull up all of the resources available,” Maryann said.
