Mental health counselor at Upstate school accused of sexual abuse

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – A mental health counselor assigned to a Greenville school is accused of sexually abusing a juvenile.

The Greenville Police Department said 42-year-old Christopher Haines was arrested Friday and charged with unlawful conduct towards a child, third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, criminal solicitation of a minor, and first degree assault and battery.

Investigators said the minor reported to law enforcement in April that they had been sexually abused by Haines.

Haines was responsible for the welfare of that minor, police said.

Police said Haines was employed by the South Carolina Department of Mental Health and was assigned to work at the West Greenville School.
