Blame it on the millennial pink marketing or the sweeping success of products like Balm Dot Com — few beauty brands catapulted to near-household name like Glossier in the mid-2010s. Marisa Meltzer’s “Glossy: Ambition, Beauty, and the Inside Story of Emily Weiss’s Glossier” peels back the pastel curtain to uncover the minimalistic beauty brand’s meteoric success. And now, the New York Times bestseller is slated for an upcoming series, as Amazon MGM Studios has reportedly acquired the rights to the book.

Director and screenwriter Lindsey Anderson Beer, who’s notable projects include writing and directing “Pet Sematary: Bloodline” and an upcoming reboot of Tim Burton’s “Sleepy Hollow,” is set to produce the series under her LAB Brew production company. The series is in early stages of development, with no release date announced yet.

Meltzer’s book, published by Simon & Schuster, hit shelves on September 13th with much fanfare. The author conducted in-depth interviews with Weiss, as well as former Glossier employees and investors, to detail the inner workings of the brand. “Glossy” is the first deep dive into the quick rise of Glossier, covering the brand’s humble start spurred by Weiss’ blog, Into the Gloss, all the way to the startup securing a billion-dollar valuation in 2019 (and Weiss stepping down shortly thereafter, in 2022). This first behind-the-scenes look into Glossier is as much about the power of a great lip balm or brow gel as it is about ambition.
