FLORENCE, S.C. (WPDE) — A Florence woman is holding an event in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month.

Vanity Timmons is getting ready for her mental health awareness forum on Saturday at the Country Club of South Carolina ballroom in Florence.

Timmons said she takes mental health very seriously.

She formed the organization, Elaining Hands, in memory of her mother who passed away in January.

Timmons said her mother struggled with mental health challenges.

In terms of mental health, I have went through seeing my mom suffer from mental health my entire life, so since born. It’s just really personal. So, I wanted to do something that reached out to someone that I can base off of my experience.

She added that her event will feature experts who’ll talk about mental health, as well as life coaches.

She’s asking everyone to wear some colors of purple, gold or black to the event in memory of her mother.
