A trio of health and sports-related businesses inside the Shenango Commons Plaza share the same space.
Grossetti Performance, GRIT Sports Performance and Health in Motion Physical Therapy at 2656 Ellwood Road are key to the plaza’s revitalization. Two of the three are from Shenango Township
“We want to be part of that. We’re trying to live that out,” said Health in Motion’s owner Dr. Mike Murcko. “We’re trying to bring business back, helping the community.”
In addition to Murcko, Terry Grossetti is from Shenango, as is the gym’s manager Kyle Piper. While GRIT owner Paul Fair is originally from West Middlesex, he has come to love the township and the potential for the plaza and knew Grosetti and Murcko in the past.
“It’s a nice little ecosystem that we’ve built,” Fair said.
Grossetti Performance was founded in 2013 in Shenango Plaza, before relocating to Lawrence Village Plaza in January 2020.
Piper said it was important for both he and Grossetti to give back and open up their business in the place they grew up.
“I try to give back to Lawrence County as best as I can,” Grossetti said.
Piper said the gym offers group training sessions for all ages with strength coaches, including some for student or professional athletes. Some of those pros include Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Bengals’ safety Geno Stone and a host of NFL Draft prospects who train there each spring.
Other clients come from beyond Lawrence County, sometimes over an hour away.
“We’ve been blessed. We have a great group of clients that come in,” Piper said.
Grossetti, a strength and conditioning coach for 15 years, believes his gym’s programs are comparable to what’s offered by major universities.
“It’s nice to be able to help out the athletes,” Grossetti said. “It’s a valuable tool. They see the difference in what we do in comparison to our counterparts.”
Both GRIT and Health in Motion moved into an expansion of the building in January.
Health in Motion first opened in September 2021 along New Butler Road.
Murcko said the business offers anyone top physical therapy services and prides itself on scheduling someone an appointment within 48 hours of a call.
He added the business is the only physical therapy office in western Pennsylvania to have a NEUBIE machine, an electrical stimulation device meant to offer better treatment.
“It helps get people better faster,” Murcko said.
GRIT, or Growth Recovery Innovative Training, offers services tailored to athletes like whole body electric cryotherapy, infrared and red light therapy, normatec compression, performance analysis and assessment, a training lab, salt therapy and sports massages.
Fair said he got access to these programs and technology through his past work with the WWE, IMG Academy and consulting roles, such as with the XFL and various U.S. Olympic governing bodies.
“The goal was to create access to these elite resources to the local athletes,” Fair said.
Being under one roof allows an overlap of customers.
“It’s been a blessing to have them here,” Piper said. “It’s a great relationship between the three of us.”
Added Fair. “This is almost going to mirror a traditional Olympic-type facility.”
Murcko and Grossetti hope more developers come into the plaza and local residents support them moving forward.
“It can only get better. I think there’s a lot of good that can happen in Lawrence County,” Grossetti said.
