A pedestrian was killed in a car crash late Friday night — Des Moines first fatal crash of the year involving a pedestrian.
Emergency responders arrived in the 3900 block of 12th Street in Des Moines around 11:53 p.m. Friday, according to a news release from the Des Moines Police Department. They found a 47-year-old male critically injured in the street.
The man was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
Officers believe the man, a Des Moines resident, was struck by a 2003 Honda Accord, which then left the roadway and struck a house on the east side of the street. The car was driven by a 52-year-old male Des Moines resident.
The crash remains under investigation. No citations have been issued or arrests have been made, the news release said.
This is Des Moines’ seventh fatality from a car crash this year.
