Three injured in multi-car interstate crash Friday night

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Florida Highway Patrol troopers report one person was seriously injured and two others sustained minor injuries in a crash in Okaloosa County.

Troopers said at 10:27 p.m. Friday, a Pensacola man drove his SUV, heading eastbound, into the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 at Exit 45 (Log Lake Road in Holt).

Troopers said the driver kept driving in the wrong direction on the interstate until around the 43.5-mile marker, where the car crashed head-on with a sedan. Authorities said the impact of the crash pushed the sedan into the center median, where it came to rest at the edge of the tree line.

Reports state after crashing with the sedan, the SUV had spun and crashed into a pickup truck that was also driving down the interstate.

Troopers said the 45-year-old driver of the SUV was airlifted to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the sedan, a 21-year-old from Texas, was taken via ambulance to the hospital for observation with minor injuries. Troopers added the driver of the pickup truck, a 65-year-old man from Crestview, was treated on the scene for minor injuries and was able to go home.

Authorities said both lanes of I-10 were shut down for about an hour and a half and traffic was diverted from exit 31 as they cleared the scene and investigated. They said the investigation is ongoing.
