
Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating two serious crashes that killed one person and injured two others in Manatee and Sarasota counties on Friday.
In the first accident, a 39-year-old man’s vehicle collided with a car driven by an 86-year-old woman near a Sarasota assisted living facility at 10 a.m. Friday. The Sarasota woman was traveling west from the driveway access of Brookdale Philippi Creek at 5501 Swift Road when the FHP said she turned left in front of an oncoming car.
The woman sustained critical injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The driver of the other vehicle had minor injuries, according to the FHP.

A crash in Manatee County killed a 28-year-old motorcyclist Friday night. A van driven by a 64-year-old man was traveling west in the westbound left turn lane of Cortez Road West at 8:42 p.m., approaching the intersection of 51st Street West and turned left in front of a motorcycle heading east.
The motorcyclist and a 27-year-old female passenger, both of Virginia, were knocked off and were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The motorcyclist was later pronounced dead.
FHP is continuing to investigate both crashes.
