The Sussex Strong Gala, organized by the Sussex County Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation, is set to transport the community to the enchanting world of “The Wizard of Oz” on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.
The Sussex Strong Gala has been a tradition, with a history of raising funds for local children in need. Since its inception in 1994, the gala has raised $1,537,380 and has helped more than 9,712 children in Sussex County. The funds raised are used to support an average of 300 local children each year, providing them with essential items, including new coats, clothing, shoes, toiletries and school supplies, in addition to a special toy for every child.
This year’s gala theme, “Somewhere over the Rainbow: A Wizard of Oz Experience,” offers a whimsical and nostalgic journey into the magical world of Oz. While costumes inspired by “The Wizard of Oz” are encouraged, they are by no means required, as all are welcome to join in the festivities.
The gala promises an evening of enchantment, complete with a live performance by Kristen & The Noise. Guests will enjoy food from local restaurants, including Fins, Big Oyster Beer, Big Fish, Grandpa Mac, Irish Eyes, The Rusty Rudder, Grotto’s, Lydia’s, The Lighthouse and Ava’s. The event will feature both silent and live auctions, offering a chance to win items from local shops and unique travel experiences. Additionally, a 50/50 raffle and the chance to win very special bottles of wine from the wine wall will provide more opportunities for guests to participate and support the cause.
The event will also include a photo booth and the chance to capture memories together with friends old and new.
“We are immensely grateful for the support of our sponsors, including our presenting sponsors, Sussex County Association of Realtors and Jack Lingo, Band Sponsor Ocean Atlantic Sotheby’s International Realty, and Platinum sponsors Scott & Shuman and Mann & Sons,” said Jenn Barrows, president of the Sussex County Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation. “Their generosity helps us make a real impact in the lives of local children.”
For those who can’t attend the gala, there is an option to buy a ticket, and all proceeds will directly benefit local children. To purchase tickets and explore sponsorship opportunities, visit www.sussexstrong.org or call Barrows at (302) 245-1730.
The foundation’s Shopping Day is Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 9 a.m., at the Rehoboth Beach Walmart, and Wrapping Day is Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 9 a.m. The Rusty Rudder. Everyone is welcome to volunteer for an hour or whatever their schedule allows.
