Back to the Bricks remembers creator of 2023 feature car

Back to the Bricks and show car enthusiasts are remembering Mike Neeley, who died at age 78 a year after his car was the festival’s featured automobile.

GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) – A Richfield Township car enthusiast and double amputee is being remembered a year after his 1953 Chevrolet Bellaire served as the feature for Back to the Bricks.

Michael Neeley died May 16 at age 78.

He stepped on a landmine and lost both of his legs while serving overseas in Vietnam. But that only fueled him to get out and do whatever he needed to forge a new life after the war.

That meant returning to his first love of doing body work for Flint garages and then starting his own business, the Russellville Auto Center in Richfield Township.

Throughout his life, Neeley continued building show cars while helping others find the courage to put their dreams on the road.

Neeley will be interned with military honors at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly Township.
