Four dead after morning car crash in Dodge County, another in hospital with severe injuries


Four people died and a fifth was hospitalized after a truck with five young people in it didn’t stop at a stop sign and was hit by a semitrailer truck Monday morning, police said.

The crash happened at about 4 a.m. at the intersection of County TT and State 16/60 in the town of Elba, about three miles east of Columbus, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department said in a media release. A Ford F150 with five occupants, all under 20, was traveling north on County TT. The driver failed to stop and a stops sign and the pickup was hit by an eastbound semi-truck.

Police said the three of the occupants of the Ford died at the scene, including the 19-year-old driver and two passengers, who were 17 and 16 years old. The 19- and 17-year-old were from Sun Prairie, a suburb of Madison, and the 16-year-old passenger was from Madison.

An 18-year-old woman died at the hospital after the crash and another passenger, an 18-year-old from Madison, was in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

A 57-year-old man from La Farge who was driving a semi-tractor without a trailer was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A Wisconsin Department of Transportation alert said that a crash closed the intersection for about five hours. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said the crash remains under investigation.
