WICHITA, Kan. — For the second time in as many weekends, Cooper Star, of Mitchell, returned from a junior tennis tournament with first-place hardware.
After capturing singles and doubles titles at the Rapid City Open on Oct. 14-15, Star, an eighth-grade Kernel tennis player, was on the road again last weekend, this time winning at the Kansas Crestview Country Club Junior Intermediate II Tournament on Oct. 21.
In the five-player, round-robin competition, Star amassed a perfect 4-0 record, winning 32 games and losing just two on the day.
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “Mitchell Republic.” Often, the “Mitchell Republic” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
