The last time Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo benched Alek Thomas, in Game 4 of the NLCS series against the Philadelphia Phillies, it went pretty well.
Thomas smacked a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the eighth inning to tie the game in an eventual D-backs win.
Against Phillies lefty starter Ranger Suarez in Game 7 on Tuesday, Lovullo is again pulling Thomas from the lineup. Thomas, a lefty, will not be in center field, with Corbin Carroll sliding over from right and Tommy Pham moving from designated hitter to right.
Additional moves put Emmanuel Rivera eighth in the lineup and at third base, while Evan Longoria will bat seventh as a designated hitter.
Arizona will flip Ketel Marte into the leadoff spot against the lefty Suarez, with Corbin Carroll moving down a spot.
