FLORENCE, S.C. (WPDE) — Mirah Legette said the past three years have been tough for her family, as they’re faced with another great loss.
Legette’s sister and nephew died after being hit by a car this past Saturday in Florence.

Catenia Graves, 49, of Florence and her son, 12-year-old Ernest Graves died after they were hit by a car while trying to cross Highway 52 in Florence.
Graves’ 11-year-old little girl was hit too and remains in the hospital. Legette said the child was in critical condition but is doing better.
She added that Graves had just moved back to the area from New York and was staying at a hotel along the highway with her kids for the time being.
Legette said the news of the deaths has hit her family like a ton of bricks.
We were devastated. We were shocked, as a family. We didn’t see this coming. It was a surprise to everyone about our situation. It’s still a hard blow.
She added in January of 2020 she lost her brother to a shooting in Marion County. The man who shot her brother was sentenced earlier this year to life in prison.
Legette said her family is still coping with losing him, and the deaths of her oldest sister and nephew have compounded their grief.
“She was the oldest one out of five kids. Yes, it’s hard, but with God in our lives and prayers from everyone, we’ll get through it,” said Legette.
Charlene Brantley Rogers said Graves was her first cousin and she was an awesome person and mother to her seven small kids.

She was a great mom. I mean she loved her kids unconditionally. No questions asked. I mean she went out her way and beyond for her children. And they loved her so very much,” Rogers said. “And, now that their mother is gone, along with one of their siblings. It’s hard. It’s hard on the kids. And they going to need any kind of help and support that they can get.
Legette said they’re doing their best to help with the small kids and bury their loved ones, but financially it’s hard.
She added the deaths were so unexpected and so they are turning to the community for help.

Legette has also turned to social media to help with burial expenses and a GoFundMe account has been created for them here.
Police said the driver who hit and killed the family wasn’t impaired and won’t be cited in the accident.
