The Tehachapi High School Drama Club presents “Radium Girls” by D.W. Gregory and directed by guest director Liz Tiede. This play takes place in the 1920s in New Jersey.
“Radium Girls” is a historical play about a young Grace Fryer who is just trying to get justice for her fellow dial painters in a world where women’s voices don’t get heard, their sickness doesn’t get seen, and their impact on the world would have never been felt if not for her.
“Through this play I have discovered the unique and exclusive culture of theater,” said Kiya Monaè, who plays the lead role of Grace Fryer. “The community I have encountered these last few months has been one where communication, creativity, and self-expression thrives. The show, ‘Radium Girls,’ is a touching tale that allows the girls of the time to finally tell their stories. It’s an emotional roller coaster that has made me laugh, cry and yell in rehearsals. Knowing that the suffering of the radium girls will not be forgotten or lost in time because of performances like ours is an honor.”
The production of “Radium Girls” includes the talents of Lei Kirk, Kiya Monaè, Eleana Sanchez, LaKiyah Allen-Jackson-Mitchell, Amber McNutt, Aubrie Hernandez, Tobey Diamond, Kenzie Jackson, Haven Morris, Joey Davila, Amy Statom, Clowie Haman, Rae Ambos, Lillian O’Brien, Clouey Echols, Bella Genardini, Maliya Snyder, Shayna Renfro, Eli Martin, Katelyn Gockel and Xavier Honeycutt.
