Studebaker National Museum acquires historic Indy 500 racecar

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The thrill of the Indy 500 is coming to South Bend.

The Studebaker National Museum has acquired a historic Studebaker race car! The #34 Studebaker Special is one of the five Studebaker factory-built race cars completed in 1932.

The car made it on the racetrack the following year, in 1933. This particular model is the only remaining car with its streamlined 1933 coachwork.

Acquiring the car for display has been a goal for the museum “for decades.”

The model will go on display next summer as part of a special exhibit.
