Community members on the Northwest Side are on edge after one of them was shot at multiple times this weekend, right outside his home. The man who wants to remain anonymous says it happened when he confronted strangers who were trying to break into cars.
“You’re inside your home, you don’t know what’s going on. You hear noises, you open the door to see what’s going on and you have the potential to get shot,” said the man who was shot at.
That’s exactly what he says happened to him early Saturday morning in The Crest At Braun Oaks subdivision on San Antonio’s northwest side.
“Watched them get out of their vehicle, run up to the vehicle when I hollered at them. They turned around and stormed back into their vehicle when the shots went off and they fired three shots at me,” said the man who was shot at.
His neighbor, who the car belonged to, said this is not the first time vandals have targeted that subdivision to break into cars.
“This is actually the second time. The first time they came in, they actually got inside my truck and took an extra clip from my pistol,” said the neighbor who also wants to remain anonymous.
Even though car break-ins have happened on that street before, both neighbors said having the suspected thieves shoot at a home makes the situation much more alarming.
“The guy fired some shots and it could have easily hit his wife or his daughter or his son,” said the neighbor of the man who was shot at.
Both homeowners said they hope something changes immediately because they truly feel their safety is at risk.
“More presence. I see some of these officers that are parked at convenience stores or somewhere doing paperwork. Maybe stop inside the neighborhoods, stop at the entrances of the subdivisions, and do your paperwork there,” said the man who was shot at.
