Britney Spears’ new memoir reveals father forced her into rehab during Las Vegas residency

In her new memoir, “The Woman in Me,” Britney Spears reveals that her father, Jamie Spears, secretly forced her to go to rehab in 2014. At the time, Britney was in the midst of her successful Las Vegas residency, “Piece of Me.” She writes that her then-boyfriend, Charlie Ebersol, introduced her to energy-boosting products without seeking approval from her father, who was overseeing her medical care as her conservator.

Britney explains that Charlie worked out every day and took pre-workout supplements and vitamins. He shared his nutrition research with her and started giving her energy supplements. However, her father did not approve of this regimen and believed she had a problem with the energy supplements, even though they were over-the-counter.

“So he told me I had to get off them, and he sent me to rehab,” Britney writes in her book. She spent a month at a facility in Malibu, California, where she found herself surrounded by “a lot” of “serious” drug abusers. She recalls feeling scared to be there alone and criticizes her father for “throwing [her] away” in a place with crack and heroin addicts.

This revelation about Britney‘s rehab stint is the first time she has publicly spoken about it. However, Star magazine reported it at the time, stating that she had gone to Summit Malibu between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her Las Vegas residency had a break during that period, from November 9 to December 26, 2014.

That was kept secret until now

After completing her rehab program, Britney resumed her shows in Vegas as if nothing had happened. She explains that part of it was because her father told her she had to get back out there, and part of it was because she was still eager to please and desperate to do the right thing.

This is not the first time Jamie Spears has been accused of controlling Britney’s life. In 2019, he had her institutionalized again after her doctor found energy supplements in her purse. This treatment stay became the catalyst for Britney to fight against her 13-year conservatorship, which she successfully ended earlier this year.

“They forced me to go,” Britney claims in her tell-all book, echoing what she said in court in 2021. “They kept me locked up against my will for months.” Despite everything she has been through, Britney expresses gratitude towards those who stood up for her when she couldn’t stand up for herself.
