Children in environment conservation drive

As we continue to reflect on the World Environment Day which was commemorated on Wednesday, June 5 in Sironko district under the theme; Our Land, Our Future, some children have stepped up to inspire others to conserve the environment in big and small ways.

One such is Celine Nabbale Kalabo from Aspen Junior School. She is so passionate about nature and gardening that she started a gardening club at her school to inspire her schoolmates.

Kalabo also has a flower garden at home where she invites her club members for free gardening lessons, twice every month.

“I attend seminars and workshops on conserving nature. I envision a country that is green, beautiful and free from pollution,” she says.

Relatedly, Lauren Kaliisa from Greenhill Academy Kibuli, hates it when people litter streets, their homes and workplaces. For that, he reminds his friends to dispose of rubbish properly.

He also plants trees and feels bad when people destroy swamps and pollute the environment with noise.

Similarly, Lilian Kiconco enjoys growing fruit trees like mangoes, oranges and apples. Watering them and seeing them grow makes her happy.

She encourages children to conserve the environment by planting more trees.

On the other hand, Gideon Muwanguzi from Pearl Inclusive Education Center is a recycler.

He repurposes plastic containers than dumping them in the environment.

He uses them to grow vegetables.  Also, Mavis Atusiimire from Rwebiita Preparatory School in Sheema district makes sure her schoolmates dump non-biodegradable waste in rubbish bins.

She is also an advocate for tree planting.
