
The Innovation Academy Hawks continued to soar on Senior Night.
The Hawks defeated Mystic Valley, 3-0, as Emily Garcia led the way with 12 kills and six digs. Innovation won 25-14, 25-10, 25-16 on Tuesday.
Also starring for Innovation (16-3) were Susannah Goodrich with 11 kills, three digs and three aces, Belle Huynh with 13 digs, four aces and two kills, and Melanie Bouzan with 28 assists, three aces, three kills and five digs.
ST 3, Gr. Lowell 0: In a battle of CAC squads, visiting Shawsheen Tech swept Greater Lowell Tech in Tyngsboro.
The Rams remained perfect in CAC Large play (12-0) and improved to 17-1 overall with the 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 victory.
Campbell 3, Pelham 1: No. 12 Pelham couldn’t pull of an upset of fifth-seeded Campbell in a NHIAA first-round playoff match on the road.
Pelham ends with a 6-11 record. Campbell (12-3) advances to play ConVal in the next round.
Golf
Div. 2 North Sectional: Two area teams and one individual competed at Stow Acres Country Club.
Playing as an individual participant on the North Course, Dracut’s Colin Underwood carded a 79, the best score recorded by a local golfer.
Tewksbury compiled a score of 332 (top four scorers) behind the play of senior Matt Cooke (81), senior Jeremy Insogna (81), senior Ryan Baker (84) and sophomore Ricky Pacheco (86).
Billerica produced a team score of 342 behind freshman Jake Cataldo (80), senior Caden Spolidoro (85), sophomore Justin Pappalardo (88) and sophomore Jackson Burke (89).
Cooke, Insogna and Cataldo finished in the top 30 of the 80 players. The top eight players (scores of 76 and below) moved on to the Division 2 State Tournament next Monday. Marblehead was the team champion with a 311, followed by Gloucester at 312 and Reading at 313. Milton’s Johnny Gillooly was the tournament champion with even par 72.
Div. 1 Central Sectional: Westford Academy finished in the runner-up spot, three strokes behind St. John’s of Shrewsbury.
Chelmsford earned fifth place with a 318, 15 shots behind the winners.
The top four teams advance to the State Tournament, leaving the Lions barely on the outside. However, sophomore Jacob Carlson has qualified as an individual after posting a fine round of 75.
Div. 1 West Sectional: North Middlesex had two of the top four individual finishers, as Shawn Amari fired a 76, just one shot behind the winner, Longmeadow’s Ryan Downes, considered by most the state’s top high school player.
NM’s Max Caliri, meanwhile, also had an outstanding round. His 77 tied for third place. In the team competition, Longmeadow (325) defeated Wachusett and Minnechaug, which tied with a 331.
Girls soccer
G-D 2, Clinton 0: The connection between AnaRose Martel and Ava Buchmann lifted Groton-Dunstable to the Mid-Wach victory.
Martel netted both of the game’s goals and was set up by Buchmann both times. The Crusaders’ defense also produced a strong game.
NT 1, Gr. Lawrence 1: Freshman goalkeeper Kali Christakos only allowed one goal and made several amazing saves as Nashoba Tech played its final CAC game of the fall.
The lone goal was scored by Delaney Auger on a free kick after a foul. The Vikings host Trivium on Wednesday (5 p.m.) for Senior Night.
Tewksbury 2, Billerica 0: The host Redmen collected an impressive MVC victory thanks to airtight defense and a goal in each half.
In the opening half, freshman forward CJ Zwirek netted the game-winning goal. Tewksbury received a huge insurance goal from senior forward Rhiannon Anderson with under five minutes left in regulation.
Methuen 3, Chelmsford 2: The Lions were edged on their home field at Simonian Stadium during a MVC thriller. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime.
Lowell 4, Lawrence 0: The Red Raiders dominated their longtime MVC rival at Cawley Stadium in Lowell.
Lincoln-Sudbury 4, WA 3: Westford Academy was nipped during a high-scoring Dual County League battle in Sudbury.
Central 1, Andover 0: The Raiders pulled out a tough MVC victory to finish the regular season undefeated in league play.
Lucy Irwin continued her fine play with the game’s lone goal. Sarah Tressler picked up the assist. Lauren Sanchez made five saves for Central (13-2-1, 12-0-1 MVC).
Littleton 2, Millbury 0: Lily Doucette set up both goals and Ellie Manser was rock solid in net as the Tigers earned the Mid-Wach win. Norah Kobaly and Audrey Doyle pocketed the goals.
Boys soccer
L-S 2, Westford 1: Lincoln-Sudbury led 1-0 at halftime and then held off the Ghosts during the DCL meeting.
Westford’s goal was tallied by Lucas Albuquerque and assisted by Esteban Gonzalez. Goalkeeper Jack Bussey played well and made six saves.
Billerica 2, Tewksbury 1: Billerica clinched the MVC title with a hard-fought win over rival Tewksbury.
Jason Xintaropoulos netted the game winner late in the first half after Brian Jones scored earlier to tie it up. Riley Donovan was solid in the second half for the Indians. For Tewksbury, Ryan Cura scored off a header to give the Redmen the early lead.
Field hockey
Wilmington 1, Melrose 0: The Wildcats captured a tight Middlesex League victory thanks to a goal by Keira Warford.
Football
Things are getting interesting and the stakes keep rising. There’s a number of pivotal games on the slate this weekend. Billerica and Pelham will look to remain undefeated, while Ayer Shirley and Groton-Dunstable are seeking their first wins.
