Bid to smuggle electronic gadgets foiled


KARACHI: Pakistan Customs Airport Collectorate, Karachi on Tuesday foiled an attempt to smuggle substantial quantity of electronic gadgets, branded handbags and cosmetics from UAE.

According to the details, customs staff posted at the international arrivals lounge at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP), Karachi intercepted a female passenger arriving on PIA flight – PA 111 from Dubai when she tried to exit through the green channel.

Upon scanning her suitcase, officials found several mobile phones and electronic items. As a result, her luggage was then thoroughly examined at the customs examination counter that led the recovery of 4 iPhone 15s, 2 Apple MacBooks, 25 branded handbags, 8 branded watches, and 25kg of branded cosmetics from her suitcase. The value of the recovered items is estimated to be Rs6.6 million, with applicable import duties of around Rs3 million, bringing the total value to Rs9.6 million.

Consequent upon the recovery, a case is being registered and further investigation is in progress.
