American actor and musician John Stamos has admitted that he felt emasculated during his marriage to actress and former model Rebecca Romijn.
Stamos has admitted that he had immense love for Romijn and that it was not her fault that he felt the way he did.
“I loved her and I thought she was super talented, so I was happy to do that,” he said in what was a very revealing interview with SiriusXM’s ‘The Howard Stern Show’.
“But I forgot about my own stuff. She was taking off and I just wasn’t paying attention to mine. And it wasn’t her fault.
“I said ‘You know what? I’ve had enough fame, I’m OK, let’s put the spotlight on her’.
“I felt that I became emasculated. I think that she outgrew me.
“I didn’t work on anything. I didn’t work as hard as I should at anything.”
John Stamos and Rebecca Romijn’s messy divorce
The pair had married in 1998 and then they filed for divorce in 2004.
In his new memoir, ‘If You Would Have Told Me’, Stamos explained that he developed a hatred of Romijn during the divorce.
“I just hated her, I couldn’t believe how much I hated her, and it ruined my life,” he told People.
“It was very much the opinion that she dumped me because her career was going great and mine wasn’t.
“I don’t blame her for it. It was just the perception that people took.”
But, now he has a different perspective on the fall-out.
“You start thinking ‘Oh, she wasn’t the devil, maybe I was as much to blame as her’,” Stamos admitted.
