New technology at Killeen Police Department helps combat rising crime

The Killeen Police Department has brought in “Fusus,” a technology that creates a hub for the Killeen Police Department to filter all their resources.

KILLEEN, Texas — The Killeen Police Department is utilizing new technology to fight crime.

With a rise in car thefts and break-ins, the department said this technology will come in handy.

The technology, called Fusus, creates a hub where all calls, video and crime tips are collected and filtered out at the department.

The goal for authorities is to make sure they have access to all the camera footage they could possibly have across Killeen.

This includes private cameras.

With Fusus, the community has a chance to share their private cameras with the department.

Any camera footage they have, officers can see it in real time, allowing them to coordinate with their officers out in the field.

Assistant Police Chief Alex Gearhart said bringing this new technology to the department will be a win for everyone in the community.

“The ability to get them (video footage) in real time is what we’re trying to press on now,” Gearhart said.

The department wants anyone who is willing to share their private video footage, to do so but they have to give the department their permission.

If you or someone else had an issue where criminal activity was going down, officers would be able to access that video footage in real time.

Gearhart added that this hub will allow authorities to watch this footage and relay information to their colleagues out in the field.

“We will use our dwindling resources as best we can,” he added.

When Gearhart said “dwindling resources,” he meant that recruitment numbers are down.

With less staff comes the inability to cover everything they need to in order to protect the community,

The goal of this new system will streamline their resources and help the community in real time.

Key features of the Fusus technology include:

  • Incident-Based Monitoring: Officers will be able to receive actionable intelligence from Fusus when dispatched to an incident.
  • Collaborative Response: Fusus facilitates seamless communication and information sharing among law enforcement agencies, first responders, and our community’s security personnel. This open platform helps facilitate community ownership of public safety and precision policing, ultimately bringing the city of Killeen into the future of public safety.
  • Community Tipline: Community members can easily text a publicly available number to law enforcement without needing an app. This data is automatically stored in a cloud-based vault, as is all other data pertinent to investigations.
  • Privacy Protection: Fusus technology is designed with stringent privacy safeguards to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and protect individuals’ rights. Moreover, community members registering their private camera feeds with their respective agencies can determine how much they share.
  • Future-proof: The Fusus platform allows agencies to integrate their existing infrastructure while considering that their infrastructure may change over time. Fusus users are not forced into overhauling any hardware or purchasing specific cameras to use the platform, for example.
  • Intelligent Analysis: The platform employs advanced analytics and artificial intelligence algorithms to identify unusual patterns, behaviors, and object detection, providing an extra layer of security.
