Jamie Oliver shares vital pasta tip that will change the way fans cook forever

Jamie Oliver has shared a top tip for making pasta sauce – and it involves the most tear-inducing ingredient of them all: onions.

The 48-year-old professional chef has been blowing the minds of food fans for over 20 years after exploring onto TV screens as The Naked Chef way back in 1999. And it seems he still has some tricks up his sleeve as he has given a top bit of advice for making a delicious pasta sauce.

With Wednesday marking National Pasta Day, one of Jamie’s recipes has resurfaced to show how easy it is to whip together a simple sauce to go with those delicious carbs. And Jamie recommends washing onions to make their flavour more palatable so it won’t overpower the rest of the sauce.

He also claims the water added to the bulbs will make the sauce go further, making the onions taste sweeter, and add generally more moisture to the sauce. Jamie took to Instagram to share his top tip alongside some footage of himself cooking on a beach.

Sharing photos and videos online, the TV star wrote: “Inspired by my time cooking with Nonna Rosanna, this prawn & tuna linguine is an absolute joy. I’m using her trick of washing sliced onions to make them milder, and that moisture also helps to add extra sweetness as they cook!”

And he said in the video: “This tempting tuna and prawn pasta with its gutsy sweet and sour sauce, kisses you on the lips with the true flavour of Sicily.” He included natural salt that he sourced from the nearby ocean, which he evaporated in the sun, so the sea salt was left behind to be used as an ingredient.

He also branded the meal: “A truly delicious past a dish that I will never forget.” Fans of Jamie were thrilled to receive his tip online – with many expressing hope that washing onions would also cause them to shed less tears at dinner time.

One follower on Instagram share her own advice, writing in response to the post: “I peel alot of onions, and they tear me up terribly. My solution is akways to peel them in water. No more pain.” Another gushed: “Uuugh looks so good I want to cook and eat outside w you too.”

And others complained the past made them feel exceptionally hungry for pasta at unusual times. One wrote in the comments: “Now I’m hungry. It’s 8 AM.”

Jamie announced he was giving away cooking lessons to celebrate National Pasta Day 2023. Taking to Instagram he wrote: “Happy World Pasta Day you lovely lot !! I dunno about you but I’m loving that there’s a whole day dedicated to pasta. So to celebrate, @yeschefhq and I are giving you FREE access to my pasta lesson for 7 days.”
