The annual Classic Car Show is revving up for its biggest edition yet! This year, the show expands to a two-day event running from Saturday, July 6th to Sunday, July 7th, 2024 at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.
The show’s popularity necessitated the expansion. Last year’s one-day event shattered attendance records, and organizers felt it was time to spread the love for classic cars over two days. Expect a vast array of classic cars on display, spanning eras from the 1940s all the way to the early 1980s. Muscle cars from the iconic ’60s and ’70s will share the spotlight with American beauties from the fin-tastic 50s. European classics from Britain, France, and Italy will also be well-represented.
One of the highlights of the show is the unique mix of global automotive styles. Witness the contrast between American behemoths parked beside their European and British counterparts. The Asian influence, particularly from the 1960s onward, adds another layer of intrigue. Engine enthusiasts will be in for a treat. Hear the distinct rumble of a classic American V8 with its massive engine capacity juxtaposed against the high-strung snarl of a tuned European four-cylinder. The Classic Car Show offers a glimpse into automotive history through the lens of these iconic machines.
The show stays true to its roots with the inclusion of the popular “German vs Jap” segment. This showcase features customized modern classics with German and Japanese heritage, spanning all the way to modern-day models. Expect to see heavily modified cars with eye-catching paint jobs, slammed suspensions, and engines boasting power levels exceeding their factory counterparts.

Gearheads will be particularly interested in the plethora of VW Golfs, heavily turbocharged Toyotas, and Subarus with their unmistakable exhaust notes. Throughout the weekend, competitions like the crowd-favourite Limbo (testing how low a closed-roof car can go) and the Dyno Day (measuring engine power) will add to the excitement.
“We’re thrilled to expand to a two-day event,” says Dawood Hoosein, chief organizer of the German vs Jap segment. “This year, pre-entry is mandatory for all cars in our show segment to ensure the highest quality display.” German vs Jap cars will be delivered on Thursday, July 4th, and housed under cover in Hall 5 for the entire two-day event. So, if you’re a petrolhead with a passion for automotive history, don’t miss this year’s Classic Car Show! It promises to be a two-day celebration of all things classic and custom.
