After two years of seemingly bottomless appetite for travel, some airlines are seeing signs of a slowdown.
Analysts have said airlines may have overdone it in adding U.S. flights this year. Many travelers seized the chance to go abroad this summer, leaving less appetite for domestic trips. During the post-pandemic travel frenzy last year, travelers squeezed in trips outside of typical vacation periods. Now, airlines say, travel patterns are getting back to normal.
Budget carriers have been taking the biggest hits. They say they’ve been losing pricing power, cutting fares to fill seats. Spirit Airlines said Thursday that discounts have dominated heading into Thanksgiving.
