TENNIS COMPLETES ITA REGIONALS


INDIANAPOLIS – The men’s and women’s tennis teams each competed in the ITA Regionals over the past couple of weeks. Emma Dell highlighted the women’s efforts as she earned a first round victory in singles play. The partnership of Steven Paz and Noah Viste earned back-to-back doubles wins to make it to the round of 16 for the men’s team.
 
The men’s team started with singles play with Kamil Kozerski, Paz, Viste and Emil Jankowski representing the Jags. Kozerski fell in the opening round to Memphis’ Juan Sebastian Zabala, 6-2, 6-0 while Paz fell to Louisville’s Russell Lokko, 6-3, 6-2. Viste fought to three sets in the first round but fell to Tennessee Tech’s Murilo Burckhardt, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Jankowski lost to Louisville’s Andrew Steinbach in three sets, 5-7, 6-0, 6-0.
 
Paz and Jankowski each earned wins in the singles consolation bracket. Paz defeated Chattanooga’s Peyton Gatti, 7-6, 6-4 and Jankowski took down Bellarmine’s Matthew Nice, 6-4, 6-4.
 
The Jags were strong in doubles play with Paz and Viste making it to the round of 16. They opened doubles play with a win over Memphis, 8-3 then extended their streak to two matches with a win over Ball State, 8-7. In the round of 16 the partnership fell to Indiana University, 8-3. Jankowski and Kozerski also competed in doubles, facing the No. 1 seed Louisville. They held match point but couldn’t finish it out, falling 8-7.
 
The women’s tennis team traveled to the University of Tennessee for their ITA Regionals. In the opening round, Dell collected her first ITA Regional win. Dell defeated Tennessee State’s Aroa Castillo, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 to move onto the second round. She fell in the second round to Lipscomb’s Sasha Dobranos, 6-3, 6-1.
 
Freshman Chloe Bailey fell in the first round to Lipscomb’s Sofia Paladi, 6-0, 6-1. Grace Lampman lost to Purdue’s Calissa Dellabarea, 6-1, 6-2 while freshman Elle Kotre fell to Murray State’s Sarah Bureau, 6-1, 6-0.
 
In doubles play for the women’s team, Lampman and Bailey fell to Louisville, 8-5 while Dell and Kotre fell to Tennessee, 8-1.
 
With the completion of ITA Regionals, the women’s team closed out their fall schedule and will now prepare for the spring. The men’s tennis team will close out their fall schedule at the Viking Invite at Cleveland State this weekend, October 27-29.
