MOVIE: “Shark Tale” is shown at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, and Thursday, July 25, at Teays Valley Cinemas, 170 Erskine Lane, Scott Depot, West Virginia, as part of the Kid’s Summer Series. Admission is free.

FINALIST: Seth Skiles, a West Virginia native and an elementary music specialist at Putnam County’s Rock Branch Elementary School, is one of five West Virginia teachers named as finalists for the 2025 Teacher of the Year award by West Virginia Department of Education. The Anderson University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music education also obtained a master’s degree in church music with a conducting concentration from Belmont University. He is certified in the John Feierabend First Steps in Music curriculum and pursuing National Board Certification. He also taught elementary music in the Nashville area before returning to West Virginia. His professional development experience includes the University Mozarteum Orff Institute’s International Elemental Music course in Salzburg, Austria, conducting intensives through Rider University’s Westminster Choir College, West Virginia University’s World Music Pedagogy course, Disney Institute’s Approach to Leadership Excellence course and state music education conferences in Indiana, Tennessee and West Virginia. Congratulations Mr. Skiles, and best wishes to become a winner. The other four finalists are Krista Blankenship, third-grade teacher in Marion County; Emily Dunkle, agriculture educator and Future Farmers of American advisor in Greenbrier County; Bryan Hott, fourth-grade teacher in Berkeley County; and Kim Yahya, 15-year veterans teaching fourth-grade math in Mercer County. Winners are named later this year.
