Girls individual tennis state championships scheduled for this weekend


The N.C. High School Athletic Association will hold its individual girls tennis state championships this weekend.

Singles and doubles tournaments will begin on Friday morning and conclude on Saturday at four different locations in central North Carolina.

Each day, coaches meetings will be held at 8:30 a.m. with play beginning at 9 a.m.

In the 1A classification, all rounds through the semifinals will be played on Friday. The championship round will be held on Saturday morning at the Cary Tennis Park.

Each of the other classifications — 2A, 3A, and 4A — have an extra round, so they will complete the quarterfinals on Friday before picking up with semifinals and finals on Saturday morning.

The 2A championships will be played at Ting Park in Holly Springs, the 3A championships will be held at the Burlington Tennis Center, and the 4A championships will take place at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh.

The dual-team girls tennis state playoffs are also underway. The third round of the playoffs was completed on Wednesday evening. Fourth round matches are scheduled for Oct. 30, regionals on Nov. 1, and state championships on Nov. 4 at the Burlington Tennis Center.
