Beyoncé Denies $2.7 Million Tax Debt, Files Petition

People Magazine got a copy of a petition that Beyoncé filed with the United States Tax Court earlier this month. In it, she disputed nearly $2.69 million in taxes and fines.

After the IRS sent her a Notice of Deficiency saying she owed $805,850 for 2018 and $1,442,747 for 2019, she filed the case. The organization also says she pays a total of $449,719.40 in fines from 2018 and 2019.

In her petition, the singer-songwriter said that this was a mistake made by the IRS and that they had denied deductions worth millions of dollars, including $868,766 for a charity contribution carryover reported in 2018.

The IRS says that a tax payment of 20% of the amount is due. The Grammy-winning singer’s legal team says she shouldn’t have to pay a penalty if she didn’t pay enough taxes because she “acted reasonably and in good faith.”

In a statement, Beyoncé’s lawyer, Michael C. Cohen, said, “We are working with the IRS and anticipate that the matter will be resolved shortly.”

Beyoncé filed her case as the only taxpayer, without including her husband, JAY-Z.

Forbes says that once a taxpayer files a claim, they usually don’t have to pay the tax in question until the case is over.

Also, the news source said that the singer of “Break My Soul” had a net worth of $450 million last year.

The singer is getting ready for her Renaissance World Tour, which starts next month. From May 10 to June 28, 2023, she will be performing in Europe. From July 12 to September 27, 2023, she will be performing in the United States.
