There’s Perfume for Your Pooch, Too

What does a dog smell like? If you ask Vogue.com editor and Dogue’s fearless leader Chloe Malle, “The smell of a wet dog is a compelling scent—it’s like rainwater and mildew. But I love a dog after grooming, fresh shampoo that’s slightly chemical.” Elise Taylor, senior lifestyle writer, says her family’s beagle Mouse (who she recently spent a lazy Sunday morning cuddling with) has an eau that’s warm and musty. “He smells kind of like he’s been in a dusty barn all day, despite spending 90 percent of his day snoozing on our couch.”

Italian fashion and beauty house Dolce & Gabbana, working with master perfumer Emilie Coppermann, have a far more sophisticated idea of what a man’s best friend smells like: ylang-ylang, musk, and sandalwood. Inspired by (and named after) Domenico Dolce’s auburn poodle, Fefé, the mist is alcohol-free, has been certified safe by veterinarians, and comes in packaging with a 24-karat gold paw stamped on it as a seal of approval.

Perhaps this is your dog’s first foray into beauty, or maybe they already have a full routine that includes shampoo, conditioner, and paw butter. Either way, Fefé is for the pup who has perfect taste (or perhaps, smells like wet dog).
