Burlingame hasn’t seen much success against Menlo-Atherton on the girls’ tennis circuit in many years. Frankly, no one has. M-A entered the season having won eight straight Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division championships, and despite finishing in second place this year, had continued its run of success against Burlingame by sweeping the regular-season series between the two.

Mila Mulready changed that trend, though, as Burlingame’s No. 1 single won the clincher in the PAL team tennis tournament championship showdown Thursday at Menlo-Atherton. The Panthers held on for a slight 4-3 victory, with Mulready battling M-A No. 1 Tess Ellingson in a back-and-forth tiebreaker for a 2-6, 6-0, 10-8 comeback victory.
