NEW YORK — Don Lemon will return to work on Wednesday following formal training for his remarks against GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley on “CNN This Morning,” network CEO Chris Licht announced in an email to workers on Monday evening.
Lemon has not been on air since Thursday, when, during a debate on “CNN This Morning” regarding the ages of politicians, he stated that Haley, age 51, was not “in her prime.” He stated that a woman was at her peak in her twenties, thirties, and possibly her forties.
In response to co-host Poppy Harlow’s challenge, Lemon stated, “Don’t shoot the messenger; I’m just stating the facts.”
Licht noted in a memo, “I met down with Don and had an open and meaningful talk.” “He has promised to receive formal training and continue listening and learning. CNN Business noted that we take this matter very seriously.
Since then, Lemon has expressed regret but has been extensively criticized, notably by Licht. As per the report of The New York Times, Licht reprimanded Lemon at a Friday editorial conference call, stating that Lemon’s words were “upsetting, unacceptable, and unfair” and a “big distraction.”
Lemon stated, “When I make a mistake, I own it.” “And I also own this one.”
