Art and culture collide at third annual ‘Indigenous Artists of the Prairie’

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – An annual event that brings together the community to celebrate local indigenous artists took place at Good Earth State Park on Saturday.

The third annual ‘Indigenous Artists of the Prairie’ event showcased over 30 vendors selling arts and crafts from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Alongside showcasing local artists, the event served as an opportunity to learn more about Native American Culture.

“The park itself has a rich history of having Native American settlement here. So it’s awesome to bring that tradition back, with the trading, comradery, and the fellowship that we’re having today,” said Good Earth State Park Naturalist Jen Stahl.

“It’s a tradition that all of our young generations need to learn about to keep that going in our state and around the world. To let people know the history of our culture and be a part of it,” said Tammi Penning, a vendor at Saturday’s event.

The event also had food, live music, a drum group and an open mic.
