Elizabeth Debicki Thanks “Unparalleled, Incredible Human Being” Princess Diana in Emmys Acceptance Speech

Elizabeth Debicki just won her first Emmy for her portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown. “I didn’t write anything down because I’m very superstitious and now I’m in a real pickle,” Debicki began her acceptance speech, “So I’m gonna do this quickly.”

She began by thanking Crown creator Peter Morgan, saying, “Thank you for making the show and thank you for trusting me with this.” Debicki continued, “To our producers. Thank you for working. Deb Ormrod, my hair makeup, amazing woman who transformed me every day. Cate and Emily who created the hair makeup set in Amy, our costume designers, I love you. Our cast are so beautiful. It is such a gift to work with you.”

“Oh gosh,” she ended, “playing this part based on this unparalleled, incredible human being has been my great privilege. It has been a gift. Thank you so very much.” Debicki played Diana in the final two seasons of The Crown; part one of the sixth and final season followed the events around her tragic death.

For the Emmys night, Debicki wore a timeless black gown by Dior and accessorized with De Beers earrings.

When her nomination was announced earlier this past summer, Debicki revealed she missed playing Princess Diana. The actress told Deadline, “I realized that the work that we have done in this show brings people really close to their own memories, and that’s a really unique kind of thing to feel a part of and also be witness to… I’ve had people be quite emotional, and then usually it ends with someone saying, ‘Can I give you a hug?’ It’s really beautiful and quite moving.”
