This week, we’ve got an event that spans more than 300 years of architectural history, with the Bristol Historical & Preservation Society’s House Tour 2024. Plus, the Fall River Arts and Culture Coalition presents “Jewelry and Art Together,” a new exhibition at The Ignition Space. Bristol Historical & Preservation Society’s House Tour 2024
The Bristol Historical & Preservation Society is holding its House Tour 2024 on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tour 12 private houses in historic Bristol, spanning 300 years of architectural history.
Each house offers a glimpse into the past, and many houses on this year’s tour are new to the tour, while others haven’t been viewed in over 25 years.
Included in this year’s tour is the Joseph Reynolds House, a National Historic Landmark, also known as the “Lafayette House” and built in 1698.
Also on the tour is Seven Oaks, designed by New York City architect James Renwick, who also designed St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. The Gothic Revival-style home was built in 1873, and features turrets.
Tickets are $55 on the day of the tour, and $45 if purchased in advance. Bristol Historical & Preservation Society members receive a discount.

Fall River Arts and Culture Coalition presents ‘Jewelry and Art Together’ at The Ignition Space
The Fall River Arts and Culture Coalition is currently exhibiting “Jewelry and Art Together” at The Ignition Space, 44 Troy St., Unit 2, Fall River, now through Sept. 28.
By Ignition Grant recipient Sharon Jussaume, this is a vibrant showcase of jewelry that captures the beauty of the four seasons. Jussaume’s pieces reflect the harmony of nature.
Visitors can view the exhibition for free on Fridays, from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays, from noon to 5 p.m.
Jussaume will be hosting a hands-on, free workshop on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Learn how to work with super duo beads. All supplies will be included. Advance registration is preferred, at https://bit.ly/4ecXP5C.

Upcoming concerts at Narrows Center for the Arts
The Narrows Center for the Arts, 16 Anawan St., Fall River, has a couple of upcoming concerts.

Welcome Back to Art Class with the Greater Fall River Art Association
The Greater Fall River Art Association, 80 Belmont St., Fall River, is hosting a Welcome Back to Art Class event on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 1 to 4 p.m.
This is a free event, for all ages.
Sample some of their offerings, like watercolors, acrylics, drawing, papermaking, and more.
Guests can also meet instructors, and learn more about art education opportunities.
Food and drinks will be available for a donation.
Greater Fall River RE-CREATION Senior Social
Greater Fall River Re-Creation, 45 Rock St., Fall River, is hosting a Senior Social on Friday, Sept. 20, from noon to 3 p.m.
This event will feature a live band, playing a variety of music for different types of dancing.
Socialize, relax, and have a free dinner.
Portuguese-American author Katherine Vaz at New Bedford Whaling Museum
Portuguese-American author Katherine Vaz will be at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hill, on Thursday, Sept. 19, as part of the Portuguese & Lusophone World Lecture Series.
The lecture is at 6, and will be followed by a light reception from 7 to 8 p.m.
Vaz’s presentation will focus on her novel “Above the Salt,” a fictional account based on the true story of Madeiran refugees adopted by Illinois during the Civil War era.
This event is co-sponsored by the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian studies of Brown University with support from FLAD – Luso American Foundation, of Lisbon.

New Bedford Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet at Hazelwood Park
The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet will be at Hazelwood Park in New Bedford on Sunday, Sept. 22.
This will be a family-friendly, light program of music, performed at the gazebo.
All are welcome; admission is free.
The rain date for this event is Sunday, Sept. 29.
Merrick Brannigan to perform at the Marion Art Center
Merrick Brannigan returns to the MAC Theater stage at the Marion Art Center, 80 Pleasant St., on Friday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
Featuring guest musician Putnam Murdock, this is Brannigan’s first-ever EP release concert.
Brannigan is a 16-year-old singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.
A special ticket price of $10 is available for students 18 and under. MAC member tickets are $20 and tickets for non-members are $25.

Bliss Four Corners Congregational Church fish bake
Bliss Four Corners Congregational Church, 1264 Stafford Rd., Tiverton, is hosting its annual fish bake on Friday, Sept. 20.
Meals will be served as eat-in or take-out, from 4 to 6 p.m.
The meal will include fresh flounder, breaded and baked, potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, rolls, and homemade dessert. The fish is compliments of Cape Quality Seafood, 657 Dartmouth St., S. Dartmouth.

Write with Community: Free writing workshops
Write with Community returns for another season, with three free writing workshops.
Find and share your voice with fellow writers.
The first workshop will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Groundwork Fall River, 2 Bank St.
Last year’s Write with Community included writers from all over the SouthCoast, and some from as far away as Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and Dennis, Massachusetts.
Fall workshop topics will include: “Writing from Place,” “Writing from the Outside In,” and “Write Now!”
“If you write, like to write, dream of writing, or imagine yourself a writer, come to these workshops,” Midori Evans, CEO and founder of of Midori Creativity and facilitator, said in a press release about the event. “It’s a really supportive experience.”

Ballet RI presents Art in the Park
Ballet RI, in partnership with Rhode Island Commerce, announces Art in the Park, a celebration of local art, community, and family fun.
This free event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 22, from noon to 3 p.m., at the Roger Williams Park Temple to Music, F C Greene Memorial Boulevard, Providence.
There will be a free dance class, a performance by the Ballet RI Company Dancers, and an Aurea Ensemble performance by the Rhode Island Kung Fu & Lion Dance Club.

Coming soon: Manhattan Short Film Festival at Bristol Community College
Bristol Community College’s Fall River campus, 777 Elsbree St., will be hosting the Manhattan Short Film Festival on Thursday, Sept. 26, with screenings from 6 to 9 p.m.
The festival features 10 short films, which are 20 minutes or less, and guests can enjoy popcorn.
