George W. Bush, Travis Kelce, H.E.R.: World Series Game 1 in Arlington attracts celebs


ARLINGTON — Some prominent names in politics and music were among the tens of thousands of fans who flooded Globe Life Field on Friday to watch the Texas Rangers play the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 1 of the World Series.

During the pregame events, Grammy-winning singer H.E.R. performed the national anthem.

Fans made sure to yell “stars” when H.E.R. sang the word, a nod to the Dallas Stars.

Former President George W. Bush threw the ceremonial first pitch Friday night. Bush threw to Rangers legend and hall-of-famer Iván “Pudge” Rodríguez.

Bush also attended at least one American League Championship Series game in Arlington when the Rangers played the Houston Astros.

Kansas City Chief tight end Travis Kelce was briefly shown on the jumbotron. His face was partially hidden by the railing and he threw up a peace sign when he realized he was on the big screen.

Taylor Swift, who has been making recent headlines with Kelce as love interests, was nowhere to be seen in Arlington. She’s performing in Rome on Friday night.

Frisco-based YouTube sensations Dude Perfect took part in the pregame festivities. The sports and comedy group is made up of former Texas A&M roommates.
