Woman killed after being hit by car while crossing street in West Michigan


KENT COUNTY, MI – A 48-year-old Gaines Township woman died of injuries sustained when she was hit by a car while walking across the street on Friday night.

The victim’s name has not been released.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the intersection of 68th Street and South Division Avenue in Gaines Township, according to a news release from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman was walking across 68th Street when she was struck by a Jeep that was turning left onto 68th Street from South Division Avenue, the sheriff’s office said. The Jeep was driven by a 30-year-old Gaines Township woman, according to the release.

First responders rushed the pedestrian to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kent County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit.
