2023 Pan American Games: Four athletes secure Olympic tennis quotas in high stake semi-finals


It was the women’s singles semi-finals that kicked off the morning of tennis as Argentina’s Julia Riera played Brazil’s Pigossi on the central court, while Argentina’s** Carle** played Canada’s Rebecca Marino in the Grandstand.

Carle took the match on the grandstand in an hour and 25 minutes, defeating the Canadian 6-1 in the first set and 6-4 in the second.

One court over, it was an emotional ending for Pigossi, as the final score came down to a tiebreaker after over three hours of play. She collapsed on the ground before raising her arms to the audience and reaching into the stands to hug her family.

The final score was 2-1 (4-6, 6-4 7-6) and 7-5 to the Brazilian in the tiebreaker.
