TEXARKANA, Texas — A family-owned health market opened in September, hoping to bring more nutritious options to the area.
Back to Roots Health and Wellness Market is now gearing up for its grand opening later this month at 2315 Richmond Road in the former Fan Fare Gifts and Boutique.
“This is very exciting. We’ve waited forever to open up,” said Janvi Patel, who owns the shop with her mother, Minal.
The Patels purchased the building in May 2022, and a little over a year later, they have turned their family’s dream into a reality.
Back to Roots offers gluten-free and regular foods, household cleaning products, health and beauty care, a variety of drink options, supplements and what the owners describe as high-quality pet foods.
“We have a little bit of everything,” Patel said.
Patel and her family travel to Dallas every few months to stock up on healthful products.
“We don’t really have anything around here that has a little bit of everything, because the closest place is Whole Foods in Shreveport,” Patel said. “Based on the feedback we’ve gotten from customers, stuff they would order online or go out of town for we sell a lot of that here.”
Patel wants to make Back to Roots
a center for people to get what they need “regardless of what part of their health journey they’re on.”
“Whether you just started or been on it for years, we want to cater to everyone and help them,” she said.
The mother-and-daughter duo, both certified health coaches, also offer health advice to customers.
Local Colton Foltz is excited about having another source for healthful products.
“I came here because I’m looking for healthier food options, better ingredients, more organic, no artificial flavors or dyes, and just low-processed sugar foods,” Foltz said. “I think this place being in Texarkana will help spread awareness on how toxic some of the regular foods are and just having more options for people will people more opportunity to make better decisions.”
The name of the health market has a double meaning. The first meaning refers to the roots of plants the owners think people should eat.
“The second meaning refers to our ancestors, because our ancestors didn’t eat processed foods. They ate much better than we do,” Patel said.
Back to Roots’ grand opening will be 10:30 a.m. Oct. 25. The event will include a ribbon cutting, raffle, complimentary samples and discounts.
