Chester County Hospital is getting a kick-start on the holiday season with a roster of October events to keep community members healthy, happy, and informed. From weight management to bone health to nutrition and more, here are a few of the many events at Chester County Hospital this month.
Oct. 8, 15, 22 and 29, 6-7:00 PM: Your Weigh Down
Are you struggling with healthy eating and weight loss? Then this program is for you. Come get connected with dynamic group coaching to learn your “weigh” to healthy weight loss. Make real progress happen while attending 4 group coaching sessions packed with education and hands-on skill building. Here we put the pieces together to stop weight gain and re-set behaviors for meaningful food, fitness, and health improvements.
This is a four-week program. Classes meet once a week on Oct. 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 6-7:00 PM.

Oct. 9, 12:30-1:00 PM: Nutrition Matters Lunch and Learn
This is an informative lunchtime nutrition talk led by registered dietitians. The topic for Oct. 9 is “Why Do We Overeat?” and the presenter is Kim Beazley, RD, CDCES. The event is free, but registration is required via phone at 610-738-2300 or here online.

Oct. 10, 6-7:00 PM: Be the CEO of Your Cycle
Join this presentation to learn about your menstrual cycle. Learn what is “normal,” what can cause irregularities, and why it’s important to track it. The group will also discuss myths and facts about recommended nutrition and exercise based on your menstrual cycle. The presenter of this event is Grace McKelvey, Dietetic Intern at West Chester University, and it is free. However, registration is required via phone at 610-738-2300 or here online.

Oct. 14, 6-7:00 PM: Bones & Joints: The Shoulder
Join a board-certified orthopedic surgeon to learn about the latest surgical and non-surgical treatments for shoulder pain. These include medications, injections, small incision joint replacement, and other state-of-the-art advancements. Adrienne Towsen, MD, will be presenting, and it is free to attend. Oct. 15, 6-7:00 PM: Neck Pain: A Commonsense Guide to Causes and Cures
This presentation, led by a physical therapist, will provide an explanation of basic anatomy, common causes, evaluative procedures, and treatments for neck pain. Christopher Lengel, MPT, OCS, ATC, will be presenting, and the event is free. Registration is required by phone at 610-738-2300 or here online.

Oct. 20, 12:30-2:30 PM: Check Your Meds: Medication Reconciliation Day
Take advantage of this opportunity to talk to a pharmacist about the medications taken by you or a loved one. Meet one-on-one with a Chester County Hospital pharmacist to review common uses and side effects of your medications, and drug interactions. They will provide tips to ensure that your medications and supplements are taken and stored properly. Don’t forget to bring a list of any questions to review with the pharmacist. Appointment/registration is strongly recommended for this free event. A limited number of walk-in participants will also be welcome, pending pharmacist availability.

Oct. 23, 6-7:00 PM: Diet & Exercise for the Prevention & Treatment of Breast Cancer
There are many nutrition and lifestyle choices that can make a difference if you have breast cancer, are a breast cancer survivor, or are at risk for breast cancer. Join this presentation with a Registered Dietitian and a Breast Oncology Nurse Navigator to learn about why following a balanced diet and regular exercise can keep your body strong and reduce your risk.

Oct. 28, 4-6:30 PM: Heart Tracks Coatesville Screening Program
This cardiovascular risk assessment and education program is intended for adults ages 20-79 who have not had a prior heart attack or stroke. It includes the following screening components:
- Blood pressure
- Non-fasting blood test for total cholesterol, HDL, triglycerides and glucose
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
- Ten-year cardiac risk assessment
- Personalized counseling session
The event is free and will be held at the Community Youth and Women’s Alliance (CYWA) at 423 East Lincoln Highway in
Coatesville.

When registering, please select a 30-minute time block: 4:00-4:30 PM; 4:30-5:00 PM; 5:00-5:30 PM; 5:30-6:00 PM; or 6:00-6:30 PM. Time block registrations are available on a first-come, first served basis and will fill fast. After you register for a time block, someone will contact you to arrange an exact appointment time within that block.
