Tata Technologies and BMW Group have launched a joint venture named BMW TechWorks India. This collaboration aims to innovate automotive software, including software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and digital transformation solutions for business IT. With the necessary approvals and contract signings completed, operations will begin with 100 employees in Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
The joint venture is equally owned by both companies and plans to expand quickly. By the end of 2025, it aims to employ over a thousand people, focusing on recruiting India’s top engineering talent. Warren Harris, CEO and MD of Tata Technologies, stated, “Our joint venture with the BMW Group, BMW TechWorks India, underscores our deep expertise in software-defined vehicles and reflects our commitment to driving innovation in both automotive software and business IT.”
Focus on Software-Defined Vehicles
The partnership aligns with BMW Group’s global strategy by creating scalable software solutions for future vehicles. It also aims to enhance digital experiences. Nachiket Paranjpe, President for automotive sales at Tata Technologies, noted that the rapid evolution of automotive technology is transforming vehicle development. He said their expertise in SDVs positions them well to support BMW Group’s mobility goals.
India’s engineering and IT talent will be crucial in developing strategic software solutions for SDVs, automated driving, digital infotainment, and automotive digital services. The joint venture will also provide digital innovations for BMW Group’s business IT needs. This will accelerate the digital transformation of BMW’s global production network and enhance its customer journey and sales processes.
Advancements in AI Applications
A significant focus will be on developing AI applications and platforms to improve core business processes’ speed and efficiency. The joint venture aims to redefine mobility’s future by leveraging Tata Technologies’ strong brand presence in India. Harris emphasized that this platform would attract top talent to create forward-thinking solutions.
